Following the success of last year’s lumber heritage theme, NAFF18 looks to explore the region’s coal mining history and its role in building a nation. Tap the graphic to view our flyer.
Our collaborators include the Historical and Genealogical Society of Indiana County, the Coal and Coke Heritage Center at Penn State Fayette, the Eureka Coal Heritage Foundation, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
An Early Look – Thanks To IUP
Harrison Wick, an Indiana University of Pennsylvania special collections librarian and university archivist, will be producing a display on the first floor of IUP’s libraries in conjunction with NAFF. The exhibit will be on view August 26 through September 2018. The IUP campus is adjacent to downtown Indiana with the libraries an easy walk, minutes from Philadelphia Street.
The display will feature memorabilia that belonged to Pennsylvania “coal miners and the Rochester & Pittsburgh (R&P) Coal Company, which was the largest employer in Indiana County. This display will feature mine maps, photographs, documents, artifacts, and memorabilia donated by individual miners and their families and the R&P Coal Company, which is featured on the Pennsylvania Coal Culture website.”
